My Birthday was the other day, I wasn’t expecting any gifts from anybody I just didn’t I like having a low key b-day, but my mom being the awesome mom that she is, sent me a pretty cool gift, it’s a replica miniature truck and trailer of what my grandpa’s company trucks use to look like. Most of you know that I’m a fan of knowing and collecting family history, I’ve posted about this before, I love this stuff, especially this kind of stuff. She found it on ebay out of all places, I don’t know the full story, but I do know that my grandfathers company has a bunch of stuff like this, toys and stuff that they would hand out to people that worked for them, ice cream scoops that has the logo on it, these trucks, ashtrays (which I have one), there’s tons of these items still out there, back in the day, my grandfather started a company that employed a lot of people, from what I hear it was the largest non-union trucking company in the U.S. at one point. I’ve always been proud of the fact that my grandparents (simple folk from a small farm in Iowa) were able to start something that provided an income for a lot of people. The company no longer is around, you know third generation gets a hold of it, times change, I’m not really sure what the deal was. but do to that fact, it makes these items even more valuable to me.
